Can I See Uranus?

Parents by sallyna_smiles
I saw Saturn through a telescope last night. With the rings and everything! And a couple of the moons as well. It was part of a star show that the local planetarium put on at our school. They said that you never forget the first time you see Saturn for yourself through an actual telescope, and man, it did not disappoint. Wow.

The star show guy described the star Regulus as the "heart of the Lion", because of it's placement in the constellation Leo. I thought that was pretty interesting, and wondered if that had any effect on JK's choice of using that name for that particular character in light of book 7.
Wow, so I got stomach pains again that wouldn't stop, so I went to the ER on Tuesday during work (bye, kids! Here come the sub!). They said that I had a gallstone that didn't show up in the after-surgery x-ray, and they had to take it out by going down my throat. The procedure was called ERCP, short for Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography. Luckily for me I was knocked out for the whole thing. I spend 2.5 days in the hospital, and now I'm home, vegging in front of our new 50 inch flat screen, sleeping on our new memory foam mattress. Eating solid food again. Although I might have over done it with the mango-salsa chicken salad I had for dinner. A little heartburny now.

And an observation...you know the lady that does the Mercury commercials? I think she has linebacker shoulders. Yeah, I said it. Call me a mean girl, I don't care.

Who wants to be on mine? I'm aching to do a post about something I read, and I've got to do it soon (like, tomorrow) before I go back on-track or I just won't get around to it.

So, sign the enchanted parchment, no SNEAKS allowed comment below and let me know, yes or no!

Sick Day!

It's nice when your body forces you to take a break. :D

Life is good and busy, but balanced. *nods to [info]divinemum* I'm working really hard on keeping things at home and work balanced, and that makes for a happier family all around.

We've been observing the preschool children a lot lately according to a rubric in four different developmental categories, and those areas are broken down into 50 individual items. It's a lot to think about, because it's all on us teachers, but it's the most effective way to assess these preschoolers. I mean, we can't very well sit them down with a scantron, unless we want them to make a pretty picture out of all of the circles.

We've had a lot of my husband's family visiting these last few weeks. It helps us keep the house clean if we're expecting company. I really should plan to invite people over every other week to make sure our toilets get cleaned regular-like.

Been re-reading a lot lately. I should get new books, but there you go. Just finished "Da Vinci Code" and now I'm on "Little Women", which I haven't read in, gosh...10 years? Although I just watched the movie today. But it's such a great book, such a lovely read, that I shouldn't be impatient finishing it (I'm halfway now) like I usually am when I've watched the movie while in the middle of the book.

Gosh, I wish we had more HP news.

:)

Disney Channel, you're on notice! </colbert> At least in my book. Especially when I caught my six year old dancing like the Cheetah Girls, and I haven't even let her see that movie (it's just from the constant ads)....

Thank-You, Vanessa!!!

Hugs
If you haven't already seen it, take a look at this gorgeous artwork that [info]mudblood428 did for my birthday!!!

She asked me for a prompt for a birthday sketch, and I gave her one of my favorite scenes from HBP:

"But he understood at last what Dumbledore had been trying to tell him. It was, he thought, the difference between being dragged into the arena to face a battle to the death and walking into the arena with your head held high. Some people, perhaps, would say that there was little to choose between the two ways, but Dumbledore knew — and so do I, thought Harry, with a rush of fierce pride, and so did my parents — that there was all the difference in the world."

She usually does sketches for birthdays, but she felt that this scene deserved the full treatment, and it did. Isn't it amazing? It just captures the scene perfectly.

Thank-you so much, Vanessa. I'm so glad I chose such a deserving scene!

As a thank-you gift, [info]mudblood428, I would love to write a filk for you and even sing it for you! :D Um...if you want. It's my one and only talent in this fandom, dang it, and I haven't used it for a while! :P

Just give me a prompt, or a canon scene, or a favorite character, and I'll get to work!

Information

Unhappiness in relationships, according to Dr. Gary Chapman, is often due to the fact that we speak different love languages. Sometimes we don't understand our partner's requirements, or even our own. We all have a "love tank" that needs to be filled in order for us to express love to others, but there are different means by which our tank can be filled, and there are different ways that we can express love to others.

Take the quiz

And just in case everyone missed me telling you before, READ THE FIVE LOVE LANGUAGES BECAUSE SNAPE TOLD ME TO TELL YOU because it's an awesome book.

I don't know why I'm quoting that, other than the ads for Dirty Dancing on ABC Family that they show constantly keep quoting that line, and it cracks me up. My husband and I randomly say it to each other around the house when things get dull. Maybe we should dirty dance when things get dull, but that would take too much energy. :P

Why am I watching ABC Family, anyway? Whose Line Is It Anyway? is on at night, and a belly full of laughs is a good way to end the day, I always say.

What else? Life is sweet in our little house. Hugs appliances and new couches )

Work is going pretty well. You can't outhop the Hoppity Song! And Talking 'bout Gasolina )

Other random things...my own two kids now love to sing along to the following songs. See if you can recognize the following lines.

"Earth below us drifting falling, floating weightless, calling calling home...."

"We don't need no education. We don't need no thought control....Hey, Teacher! Leave them kids alone!"

"I've got soul but I'm not a soldier...I've got soul but I'm not a soldier...."

"We Will We Will ROCK YOU!"

*beams with pride*

Well, that's me updated.

ETA: Oh, I read that there is a contest on TLC for Broadway filks. For those of you familiar with my filk addiction...should I enter one of my existing ones (because I just don't have the time to write anything new)? And if so, which? Gah, and when are they due? I'm nursing a sore throat right now....

...that they left out Ron's "Weasley is our King" subplot in the movie. They did leave out Hermione's SPEW in four, after all. I think they'll include a cheek kiss or something of the sort for R/H, and we'll hear about Ginny replacing Harry as Seeker, but not see Quidditch. Maybe it will be referred to off-screen. No big whoop for me. :) I'm easy like that.

I took house pics, but our usb port isn't accepting our camera! FRUSTRATION!!!
